About the Speakers

Richard C. Longworth

Distinguished Fellow, Global Cities

Richard Longworth is a distinguished fellow on global cities at the Council and is the author of "Chicago and the World." For 20 years, Longworth was a foreign correspondent and served four years as the Chicago Tribune’s chief European correspondent. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, has won the Overseas Press Club award twice, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize twice.

Nadia Bilbassy-Charters

Washington, DC Bureau Chief, Al Arabiya

Nadia Bilbassy-Charters is the Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief at Al Arabiya, and has been in D.C. since 2003. A foreign correspondent with over 20 years’ experience, she previously reported from Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, Congo and Eritrea and covered the Iraq War.

Lalit K. Jha

Chief US Correspondent, Press Trust of India (PTI)

Lalit K. Jha is the chief US correspondent for the Press Trust of India (PTI), covering the White House, Department of State, Pentagon, and Congress. Before coming to Washington for PTI in 2009, he reported from New York and covered the United Nations for various Indian publications including the Indian Express, NDTV.com and IANS.

Cecilia Khavar

US Correspondent, Swedish National Public Radio

Cecilia Khavar is the US correspondent for Swedish National Public Radio (SR). Prior to her post in Washington, DC, she was the head of "Ekots livegrupp," and was a producer and co-founder of USApodden, Sweden’s largest podcast on American politics.

Larry Madowo

North America Correspondent, BBC World News

Larry Madowo is North America correspondent for BBC World News. He was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2020. Madowo's career has included stints in New York, Nairobi, London, and Johannesburg as an anchor and correspondent.
