Chicago and the World - 100 Years of the Council
About This Event
Richard Longworth’s book, Chicago and the World is a dual history of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and of the foreign policy battles and debates as they paraded across the Council’s stage. This history is one full of ups and downs, driven by vivid characters, and enlivened by constant debate over where both the Council and its city belong in the world. Longworth joins DePaul University’s Carol Marin to kick off our Century of Global Leadership series exploring the people and events that shaped the Council and how the organization, in turn, has shaped Chicago and the world. Copies of Longworth’s book are available for pick up at the Book Cellar and an ebook version will be available soon.
About the Event Series
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs celebrates its centennial anniversary in 2022. For 100 years the Council has guided the way Chicago thinks about its place in the world and how the world engages with Chicago. As we prepare to launch the Council’s second century, we will reflect on key themes and pivotal periods that shaped its first. Join us to hear from leading historians and foreign policy analysts, people who were in the room, and leaders who changed the world.
