Samantha Power: The Idealist's Journey
There are many ways to lead in the world without using military force, argued former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, who spoke at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on October 15, 2019.
As an activist, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, National Security Council advisor, and as the United States' ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power has dedicated her career to advancing the cause of human dignity. This work has forced her to confront many of the largest and gravest global injustices, and wrestle with the question of how the US should respond. Today, the stakes are especially high, as a global movement to rollback political freedom, undermine equality, and soften the foundations of international cooperation, threaten future progress on human rights. Power joins the Council to chronicle her years of public service, and to make the case that America cannot lose sight of the world-changing power of idealism.
