Poonam Gupta

Poonam Gupta is the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research and a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India. Before joining the National Council of Applied Economic Research, she served as the lead economist for global macro and market research at the International Finance Corporation and as a lead economist for India at the World Bank. Previously, she was the Reserve Bank of India Chair Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, as well as a professor at the Delhi School of Economics and an economist at the International Monetary Fund. Dr. Gupta was also appointed as Chair of Task Force 1, “Macroeconomics, Trade, and Livelihoods: Policy Coherence and International Coordination,” as part of the Think20 Secretariat, constituted during India’s G20 presidency.
