Margaret Huang

Margaret Huang is a third-year student at the University of Iowa majoring in public health and Spanish and minoring in chemistry. She is interested in the intersection between human health, sustainability, and food systems. During the summer of 2022, Huang worked as a USDA Wallace-Carver Fellow at the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She worked on a project evaluating people's sensory perceptions of novel pigmented rice varieties, and another formulating a value-added rice-bran beverage from the pigmented rice. She plans to apply to medical school with the eventual goal of working in primary care and becoming involved in community health interventions and public health advocacy.
