Baroness Catherine Ashton served as the European Union's first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy from 2009 to 2014, where she led the P5+1 talks on Iran’s nuclear program and played a crucial role in negotiating the April 2013 agreement normalizing relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Previously, Ashton served as the first woman Commissioner for Trade in the European Commission and was the first British woman European Commissioner.
