Brita Jelen
Intern, Center on Global Food and Agriculture

Brita Jelen joined the Council as a 2022 fall research intern with the Center on Global Food and Agriculture. Jelen is a third-year law student at DePaul University College of Law and a recent graduate from Comillas Pontifical Universidad with an LL.M. in International and European Business Law. Her master’s thesis focused on agricultural land injustices in the Global South, specifically addressing how international trade and investment regimes act as barriers to sustainable development by curtailing the rights and livelihoods of smallholder farmers. She has worked for several NGOs as a legal intern, and recently completed an internship with the International Institute for Social Responsibility and Human Rights in Costa Rica. She currently serves as the Student President of DePaul’s International Human Rights Law Institute and Submissions Editor for DePaul’s Journal of Social Justice, which publishes articles discussing social justice and international human rights policy issues. Jelen is particularly interested in the intersection between business and human rights, environmental justice, food sovereignty, and corporate accountability.
