Bernard-Henri Lévy is a philosopher, filmmaker, activist and the author of over forty-five books. A committed intellectual, Lévy is known for his opposition to authoritarianism in its manifold forms and as a proponent of the “duty to intervene” into battlefields in places like Bosnia, Darfur, Rwanda, Kurdistan, Afghanistan and Libya. As a filmmaker, he has travelled into the world of conflict in his documentaries “Bosna!” and “A Day in the Death of Sarajevo”. Lévy has undertaken several diplomatic missions for the French government and was also appointed by French President Jacques Chirac to head a fact-finding mission to Afghanistan in 2002 in the wake of the war against the Taliban.
