Andreas Michaelis

Andreas Michaelis was appointed German Ambassador to the United States in August 2023. Over the course of his career in the German Foreign Service, Michaelis has held several roles, including Private Secretary to the Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore, and Director for Asian and Pacific Affairs and Director for Near and Middle Eastern Affairs and North Africa at the Foreign Office. He also served as Ambassador to Israel and Political Director of the Federal Foreign Office. Michaelis was appointed State Secretary from 2018 to 2020, then served as Germany’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2020 to 2022 before returning to the role of State Secretary from 2022 to 2023.
