Thomas Wakiaga
Co-founder, Global Students Council
Thomas Wakiaga is a co-founder and member of The Global Students Council, a coalition of student representatives, students, and professionals around the world advocating for expediency and equity in policy and treatment of third-country nationals of African descent in and around Europe fleeing the Ukraine-Russia war. Together with this group Wakiaga successfully compiled and submitted a letter, policy brief, and resolution to the United Nations, State Department, International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He also gave a Ted talk entitled “Pan-Africanism" and recently served as a volunteer for the UN during the youth education summit. Wakiaga is a graduate of DePaul University where he studied political science, women & gender studies, and economics, and currently works for the Chicago Cubs as a security officer.
