Travel can be one of the greatest tools for our global community to better understand each other and our world, but since the coronavirus pandemic slowed travel and tourism to a near halt, the industry’s future is in limbo. Economies and industries dependent on globetrotters have lost billions of dollars since mid-March, including airlines, hotels, restaurants, and tour companies—among so many others. At the same time, recreational travel is a luxury, and millions in the United States alone are out of work without flexible income for a vacation. While countries and businesses rush to reopen and resume business-as-usual, have travelers’ attitudes and expectations changed and how has the industry adapted? What might travel and tourism look like in a post-pandemic world?
