Jun Yanagi assumed his post as Consul-General of Japan in Chicago in August 2023. Yanagi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan in 1988, and since then, has served in diplomatic assignments in Nigeria, Australia, Russia, Canada, Vietnam, and Vienna. In Japan, Yanagi served as the director of the Western European Division of MOFA, Professor at Tohoku University, and as the Deputy of Cabinet Intelligence.  He read law at Tokyo University and earned his masters of PPE at Oxford University.
