James Warren

James Warren is Chicago-based executive editor of NewsGuard, a New York based firm that does non-ideological assessments of the credibility of news and information websites, TV news shows, podcasts, AI, and social media. He previously served as chief media writer at the Poynter Institute, where he authored the "Warren Report" newsletter, and as Washington bureau chief for the New York Daily News. Warren spent most of his career at the Chicago Tribune, serving as managing editor and in various reporting and editing roles. After leaving the paper, he served as publisher of the Chicago Reader, and was a co-founder of the nonprofit Chicago News Cooperative. He has contributed to The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Huffington Post, Time, Washington Monthly, and Daily Beast, and is a longtime regular analyst on cable news networks.
