Flavia Lorenzon Awarded 2026 Hart Fellowship
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is pleased to welcome Flavia Lorenzon as its 2026 Hart Fellow. The fellowship, supported by the Lansing Hart family, is awarded to an exceptional rising leader from Latin America who is committed to having a positive impact on issues of international development, global affairs and foreign policy.
“The Hart Fellowship profoundly enriches both the Council community and Chicago by expanding our engagement with Latin America. We are so lucky to have Flavia share her expert insights, international perspectives and vibrant energy with us in the year ahead,” said Ariel Schwartz, executive director of the Council’s global leadership programs.
As the Hart Fellow, Lorenzon will spend one year in Chicago deepening her global affairs knowledge and leadership skills, producing original research and strengthening connections between Chicago and Latin America. She will also participate in the Council's Emerging Leaders Program's Class of 2026 alongside 22 of Chicago’s brightest professionals.
“I am most excited about joining a community that brings together thoughtful, dedicated leaders working on some of the most pressing challenges of our time,” Lorenzon said. “The Hart Fellowship offers a rare space to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange ideas across disciplines and contribute to conversations that have real potential to shape better policy and stronger institutions.”
With more than a decade of experience working across Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, Lorenzon brings a wealth of expertise to the Council. She currently serves as a social policy specialist for UNICEF, where she focuses on strengthening social protection systems and emergency preparedness, and held past roles with the World Food Programme and the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization. Originally from Brazil, she holds a master of public policy from the University of Michigan and a master of political economy from the London School of Economics.
