Solutions for US Criminal Justice Reform
About this event
This year, racial tensions have cast renewed attention on the injustice and inequity within US law enforcement processes and our criminal justice system. Despite the United States constituting about 5 percent of the world’s population, we have the highest incarceration rate in the world. While Black and Latino Americans make up 30 percent of the US population, they account for 60 percent of prisoners. The laws that have disenfranchised them are often tied to our country’s history of slavery, reconstruction, and the enduring fight for civil rights and equality. Building upon prior conversations on racism and inequity, join the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and an expert panel to discuss the state of our criminal justice system and equitable policies and solutions.
