About This Event

Across the globe, the US military continues to define perceptions of American power and purpose. From strikes on alleged narcotics vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific to the deployment of troops in American cities and the forging of new defense partnerships in emerging domains like space and cyber, the Pentagon's scope is being redefined. As political polarization and rapid technological change transform defense institutions, questions persist about how these developments are perceived by allies, competitors, and global partners alike. How do allies interpret National Guard deployments in American cities? What happens when other countries copy US military structures and tactics? And as political divisions play out within defense institutions, what signals does that send to partners who rely on American military power? Members of the Council’s Emerging Leaders program and Young Professionals network are invited to join Alex Wagner, former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, for an informal roundtable over lunch exploring how the world sees the US military today.
