The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Armida van Rij as a nonresident senior fellow on European security and politics. “The Council and its expert fellows play a vital role in building understanding and shaping debates about the most critical issues facing the world today,” van Rij said. “I am honored to be part of this impressive community.”

Van Rij’s research focuses on European security, politics, and transatlantic relations. Prior to her role at the Centre for European Reform, she was the head and senior research fellow overseeing the Europe Program at Chatham House. She joined Chatham House as a research fellow with the International Security Program.

Van Rij’s work has been featured in The Guardian and Foreign Policy, and she has provided strategic advice to NATO, EU governments, and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. She has a master’s degree from King’s College in London.

“I have impressed by Armida’s contributions to the study of European security and defense, particularly in this challenging moment for transatlantic relations,” said Council President and CEO Leslie Vinjamuri. “As a European leading security analyst based in London with strong links across Europe, I know that Armida will be a strong asset to the Council.”
