Bria Scudder
First Assistant Deputy Governor, Office of the Governor, JB Pritzker
Bria Scudder is first assistant deputy governor for public safety, infrastructure, environment, and energy in Governor JB Pritzker’s administration.
Scudder helps manage more than ten state agencies, including the Department of Corrections, State Police Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency. She also directs and implements the administration’s top policy initiatives, including energy and criminal justice reform.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Scudder spearheaded response efforts, including the transition to work from home for over 50 state agencies and boards to ensure the safety of state workers and the continuity of operations. She was also instrumental in efforts to secure medical supplies for front-line workers.
Before joining the Pritzker administration, Scudder was the senior government and community liaison for former Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan. There, she developed strategies to advance the office’s legislative agenda and worked with communities on critical issues, including the consent decree for police reform. Prior to this role, Scudder worked for five years on campaigns and legislation in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Bria received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri in 2009.
