Aida Flores
Elementary School Assistant Principal, Chicago Public Schools
Aida Flores is an educator and community leader.
The daughter of working-class immigrants, and a mother at the age of 14, Flores had to contend with plenty of externally imposed labels—but her story is one of self-definition. Upon graduating from Benito Juarez Community Academy, she was awarded a Gates Millennium Scholarship, went on to graduate from Georgetown University, earned a master’s degree in teaching from National-Louis University, and a second master’s in school leadership from Harvard University.
While in Boston, Flores helped found the first dual language college prep school in Massachusetts, Margarita Muniz Academy. Upon returning to Chicago, she entered administration with Chicago Public Schools as a principal and assistant principal serving K-12 schools.
Her experience growing up and serving as a school leader led her to run for Chicago City Council in her community of Pilsen to represent Chicago’s 25th Ward. While she came short in the race, she garnered and inspired her community.
Flores is a multifaceted public servant, the proud assistant principal and parent of Darwin Elementary.
