Discover how public opinion has evolved on key issues like international engagement, defense spending, and global commitments.

Understanding the Controls

  • Filter: Narrows the population represented in the charts. For example, selecting 'Women' in the Gender filter will show data only for female respondents, or selecting 'Boomers' in the Generation filter will display trends only for that generation.
  • Compare By: Breaks each chart into smaller charts to compare sub-groups side-by-side. For example, choosing 'Gender' will show separate trend lines for men and women in the same chart, making it easy to spot differences between groups.

Exploring the Topics Section

The Topics tab organizes survey questions into three key themes in U.S. foreign policy:

  • US Commitments and Global Role: Questions about America's engagement with the world and international institutions
  • Foreign Policy Priorities: What Americans think should be the most important goals of U.S. foreign policy
  • Foreign Policy Spending: Public attitudes toward defense spending and foreign aid
