As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its founding, the assumptions that have governed the transatlantic partnership for decades are being tested in ways that demand serious, candid conversation. The rules-based international order and the institutional architecture of Western cooperation are under strain, and the decisions made today will reverberate well beyond the present.
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Ditchley Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation share a conviction that this moment calls for substantive engagement, and that conversation among senior leaders matters enormously to what happens in public life.
