Johannes Favi is a committed community and human rights advocate. As deputy director of the Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants (ICDI), he oversees strategic planning, fundraising, and development efforts. Favi has played a key role in advocacy for immigrant rights, including efforts that led to the Illinois Way Forward Act abolishing immigrant detention centers in Illinois. He has collaborated with elected officials, local organizations, and universities on issues impacting marginalized communities. 

In recognition of his work, Favi received the Jeanne and Joseph Sullivan Human Rights Award and the Special Service Award from the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago. He was also honored by Alderman Vasquez during Chicago’s National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. 

In 2023, Favi premiered Caged Dreams, a short film depicting the mental health impact of immigration detention, and founded an organization of the same name to provide mental health support to new arrivals. He is a member of Chicago’s New Arrivals Cabinet and a graduate of the Civic Leadership Academy at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
