Jamie Waters works in strategic communications on global issues with local impact, from defending philanthropic freedom and adopting emerging technologies to fostering social inclusion and engaging with challenging history. At the MacArthur Foundation, she leads communications strategy for the Philanthropy Field Support Program and implements communication strategies and thought leadership across foundation programs and initiatives. 

Before joining MacArthur, Waters advanced public humanities, history, and arts through communications and programming at the Newberry Library, the University of Chicago, and other collaborative initiatives across Chicago. Before moving to Chicago, she was based in Hong Kong, managing internal communications and teaching writing at an education center. While living in Ankara, Turkey, she served as an instructor at Bilkent University. 

She received her AB in comparative religion with a language citation in Arabic from Harvard University and her MA in humanities at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago.
