In 2024, Garvin G. Ambrose was appointed chief of staff at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office by State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke. Prior to this role, Ambrose held several key positions, including Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County, chief of staff to former State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, and chief of the Bureau of Administrative Services under State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. Earlier in his career, he was appointed by Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy to serve as the state victim advocate. He was a driving force behind the creation of Connecticut’s first Victims’ Rights Enforcement Advisory Commission (VREAC), where he also served as chairman.

Ambrose is a member of the 100 Black Men of Chicago youth mentoring organization, an advisory board member of the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, and a member of the board of trustees of Kids Above All. He was a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow, served as a member of former Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke’s judicial selection committee, is a member of the Illinois Supreme Court’s commission on character & fitness, and was appointed by Governor J.B. Pritzker to serve as a commissioner on the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission.

Ambrose earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University in 2001 and his juris doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He's married to Toya R. Ambrose, and they both serve as licensed foster and adoptive parents.
