About Samuel Kling

Samuel Kling is a fellow and director of global cities research at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. His research focuses on mobility and urban planning policies for a more environmentally sustainable, equitable, and humane city life, and how history can inform these efforts. His work has appeared in CityLab, the Journal of Urban History, Chicago Tribune, WNYC’s On the Media, and elsewhere. He holds a PhD in urban history from Northwestern University and a BA in history from Kenyon College. Prior to joining the Council, he was visiting lecturer in history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
