Matt Pelton

Matt Pelton is an audit & assurance (A&A) managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP and serves as the US A&A sustainability offering leader for the technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) industry. With more than 15 years of experience, he focuses on advising executive teams of multinational companies and investment firms on global regulations, sustainability standards and frameworks, and strategic communications. His experience also includes standard setting, technical accounting, financial reporting, and transaction advisory, with extensive experience working in multicultural settings and across global markets in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Pelton advises his clients on navigating sustainability disclosures, peer benchmarking, and industry priorities to inform reporting strategies and implementation roadmaps. He recommends the creation of cross-functional plans that align business priorities, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance across the US, EU, and IFRS markets.

Pelton is a CPA licensed in the state of Illinois. He holds the Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Credential from the IFRS Foundation and a Sustainable Investing Certificate from the CFA Institute. He was awarded the Young Professionals Leadership Award by the Illinois CPA Society, and he serves as a part-time faculty and instructor on business sustainability reporting and analysis. He completed an executive session on leading in sustainability with MIT Sloan School of Management and earned an executive certificate in advancing sustainability from the NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business.

Pelton received his MA in international relations from IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs in Madrid, Spain, and his BA in accounting, finance, and international business, with minors in Spanish and economics, from Augustana College (IL). His graduate thesis assessed the relationship between entrepreneurial education, economic development, and security in sub-Saharan Africa.
