Joyce Merkel
Vice President, Foreign Exchange Trading, US Bank
Joyce Merkel is a vice president in the foreign exchange trading department of US Bank, where she is responsible for driving the strategic growth of electronic platform trading for her company and mitigating the ever-changing risks present in the global currency market. Merkel executes quotes for over 400 domestic and international corporate clients, collaborating with the sales team to trade twenty-four hours a day. In addition, she manages interbank relationships with the largest global institutions in the market and provides political and economic analysis to US Bank employees and clients. With six years of experience as a trader, Merkel is the youngest vice president on her team.
Outside of work, Merkel is actively engaged in the Chicago community through volunteering at the WITS elementary reading mentorship program and the US Bank Women’s Business Resource Group. She also served in the Chicago service industry at the Boka Restaurant Group.
Merkel received a master's degree in global politics from the London School of Economics in 2013, as well as a double bachelor of arts degree from Whitworth University in international peace studies and mathematical economics in 2012. Her intellectual interests center around transnational political issues and the future of global governance.
