Jon Horek

In his previous role at engineering consulting firm Sargent & Lundy, Jon Horek advised clients and delivered projects in the electric utility, gas utility, heavy industry, institutional, and commercial building sectors. He broadly focuses his work on three trends transforming global energy infrastructure—efficiency, decarbonization, and resiliency.

Horek is an active volunteer leader with Advanced Energy Group, an organization that convenes stakeholders to achieve their local decarbonization commitments in five US cities. He works with key stakeholders from various sectors of Chicago to make progress on the city’s own pledged goals. Horek also volunteers with Upwardly Global, where he helps immigrants with engineering and scientific backgrounds as they navigate the US job market.

Horek was a Young Professional Ambassador with the Council from 2012 to 2016 and attended the 2012 NATO Young Atlanticist Summit as a Chicago delegate. He earned his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his PhD in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University, which he attended on a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Nevada.
