Dogs that tiny shouldn't be left outside anywhere there are hawks, owls, or coyotes. We had an indoor cat here who only went out on the deck if we were there. Unfortunately, I let her out right after we returned from a trip home. We had been up for 22 hours without sleep. I forgot about the cat until I woke up around around 5 in the morning. I ran to the door and opened it. He was huddled up against the door. I let him in and found punctures on his back, and a circle of fur outside where the owl had been circling around the cat. This was a really large cat, not fat, but longer and taller than most house cats, and he ran into a space under the deck stairs that the owl couldn't reach. Our cat refused to go outdoors again for the rest of his life.

Jesus, Allene. You animal killed! Just kidding. One good thing is that the cat will never go outside again and cut down on the mortality rate for those cats that do.

Well that cat is long gone to the owl-free mousing field in the sky. We have only dogs now.
