The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, an independent, nonpartisan organization established in 1920, provides insight on critical global issues. The Council’s issues include a robust program on global food and agriculture. Established in 2008, the Center on Global Food and Agriculture has convened business, policy, scientific, and civil society leaders to address food security and agriculture development challenges. In addition to annual thematic reports, periodic briefs, and the Symposium, GFAP has a small Washington, DC-based team. The DC team aims to disseminate and educate Members of Congress, staff, NGOs, and Administration officials on the importance of our global food security research. The team also develops and socializes policy recommendations.

This intern will work with a small office under direct supervision from the Government Relations Officer on the Center on Global Food and Agriculture team. They will support the Government Relations team with outreach to Congressional offices and Administration, dissemination of policy reports, and communications.

This intern performs a variety of tasks including:
  • Tracking and monitoring legislation, hearings, and local events
  • Research and synthesize policies and reports
  • External outreach to NGO stakeholders
  • Developing and preparing background materials for report dissemination, Symposium preparation, briefings, and Congressional outreach
  • Assisting the research and organization of the project’s weekly Hill update, which follows media, research, and policy developments, specific to Congress and the Administration, on issues surrounding global agriculture, food security and nutrition, and development assistance
  • Administrative duties
  • Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student
  • Demonstrated interest in global agriculture, international development, and/or public policy
  • Strong research, editing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task with quick turnaround times
