88 teachers were given pink slips today after the school's district decided to can the entire teaching staff.

A school board in Rhode Island has voted to fire all teachers at a struggling high school, a dramatic and controversial plan aimed at shoring up education in a poverty-ridden school district.
Any takers on how quickly this one will end up in court with the district scrambling to justify their position?

Phenomenal essay. Yes, it's Philosophy but my favorite topic tends to get either steamrolled or goes over people's heads without any form of context or background.

This essay hits at the root of all evil, the goodness. Confused? Don't be because there's much more there. Please read and let me know what you thought of it. It will allow me to either skip or post here on similar topics that has Philosophy debates going throughout the world.
Probe hard enough at kindness, concern or pity and the clear-headed psychologist will soon come up against the fundamental bedrocks of character: envy, malice and fear. To be optimistic about the human condition is to appear sentimental, credulous and not a little simple-minded.

Since there's been a few topics on what to eat, here's the best advice:

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
That's been Pollan's mantra since ever. All of his books (which I highly recommend, btw) have that phrase. He even uttered it during appearance on the Daily Show when Stewart asked him for one sentence advice on food.

Are you confused about it? Here's an essay, by him, in 2007.

If you've been diagnosed "probable" or "presumed" 2009 H1N1 or "swine flu" in recent months, you may be surprised to know this: odds are you didn’t have H1N1 flu. In fact, you probably didn’t have flu at all. That's according to state-by-state test results obtained in a three-month-long CBS News investigation.
I hear everyone from at work to facebook friends complaining how they had the H1N1... Sorry. You had the FLU, which is still not a joke as it kills thousands of people.
